Welcome

Rooted in God’s life and love, we, the Faith and Justice Commission, come together to...

...be active in promoting JUSTICE, LOVE AND PEACE.
...identify the tensions experienced by people as they live their faith.
...support, nurture and celebrate each other.

In all our work, we attempt to use the methodology of the 'pastoral cycle', a prophetic, Christian way of examining the world and acting to change it.

This is what Yahweh asks of you: to act justly, love tenderly & walk humbly with your God” Micah 6:8

Some parishioners from St Charles Borromeo Parish, in the Birmingham Archdiocese  have built an excellent website www.sp4climate.net to raise awareness of climate change, in support of Laudato Si’  Please share this.

Fr Rodolfo Cardenal SJ gave the Archbishop Romero Lecture  Fr Rutilio, Romero and Pope Francis in St Wilfrid's Preston last Friday. Fr Rodolfo told us that when he briefly met Pope Francis recently, he mentioned the need for Rutilio to have a miracle recognised by the Vatican. Pope Francis looked to Rudolfo with a twinkle in his eye and said, “Rutilio Grande’s great miracle is Archbishop Romero”.  To download the full talk  The Lady Chapel looked wonderful with everyone crowded in. Welcoming the Stranger - A guide  This intended for churches and other groups to help them find a way to respond positively to the refugee crisis. With easy to read sections and    important factual information the guide busts myths that have grown up to describe this national and global crisis. Importantly the document offers clear guidance and support to help church  communities, and others, offer practical help as they seek to welcome the stranger.  Written by  Liverpool Justice & Peace Commission in conjunction with other church leaders

Salford and Liverpool J&P have produced a helpful powerpoint that gives help explaining the current situation, the processes the refugees need to go through and ways of helping.

The Catholic Church and Nuclear Weapons  leaflet from Pax Christi

Opportunities for you to write or visit your MP in their local surgery to tell them why you have No Faith in Trident –Britain’s nuclear weapon system and why it should be scrapped. In 2006 the Catholic Bishops' Conference called the UK Government to set an example by decommissioning all UK nuclear weapons and so the plans for their replacement goes completely against our Bishops' call. (Hints to help with letter to MP)

lies we tell ourselves: ending comfortable myths about poverty  13 million people – including 3.6 million children – live in poverty in the UK today. This major new report shows how evidence and statistics have been misused, misrepresented and manipulated to create myths that blame and stigmatise the most vulnerable in society.
